What you need to know about Cadet Picnic
Cadets will be provided with only the Kearny JROTC t-shirt prior to the event, and must have their own black shorts upon arrival at Kearny. Students will be taken to and from this event, and will be under adult supervision throughout the entire time. Hey cadets! There’s a rumor going around that our first JROTC fundraiser is coming up next week? Well, yes, it's true!! On Friday the 25th, you will all get to watch the S5s’ attempts to stay on their feet while they try to take pictures of you guys!!! (we're so excited. very much excited.) For just $10, you can come skate with us at the San Diego Ice Arena from 7:30-10:00pm! Bring your friends, family, and anyone you want to really! This event is a great opportunity to bond with your fellow cadets!
Hello, current and incoming Kearny cadets! The long awaited Cadet Picnic quickly approaches! This is an event where 100 of our cadets are given the chance to participate in games, sports, and of course… a dance off against the other 13 battalions in our brigade, and this year is our time to shine!
Everyone is welcome to the training for these events, that will begin Monday during your PT days and after school. We aren’t asking you guys to be professionals here, though it’s totally rad if you are, we are just asking that you guys just try! What did you say? Oh, you’re not into that whole exercise thing? No need to worry! This event is open to all cadets regardless of whether or not you’ll be competing. Komets, this is your chance to support your school and more importantly, show your spirit! More information will be coming out on this event in the near future; I can’t wait to see you all there! On September 3rd, Kearny's girls' tennis team played a match against Lincoln High School. Joanna Asuelo, Melissa Burgoyne, Naydi Hernandez, Ashley Mullaley, Gemma Samoy, and Haley Williams were six of the nine team members are also active participants in our JROTC program. Participating in varsity sports along with JROTC as we always suggest and support was enough to make us all proud, but they also won due to their hard work, dedication, and good sportsmanship: qualities of truly amazing cadets. We wish them all luck at their first away game against Crawford High School on September 10th!
- c/SFC Williams Welcome to the new Kearny football field! On September 4, 2015, it was our first home football game on our brand new field! Color Guard showed up at Kearny at around 4pm, ready to present the colors. Everyone was very spirited and excited for the game! Although the pressure was on, spirits were high and the team did their best. GO KOMETS!
- c/SSG Thai A group of incoming cadets spent several hours on our campus challenging themselves to see if they could handle JROTC. Their first test began when they were faced with the Battalion
XO, Savannah Edwards, who briefly introduced herself and offered them cupcakes. All of them passed. The next test was when the Brigade Commander, Katherine Solchaga, made them play icebreakers with each other. It was a long and grueling event, but everyone survived. Once again, everyone was offered cupcakes. This was when the physical challenges began. The staff brought the newbies outside in the harsh, cold shade to learn basic drill movements. After being deemed worthy, they were offered cupcakes...once again. Cadets spent the rest of their time learning about the Archery and Armed Drill teams. Before leaving, they had pizza and cupcakes. The Basic Leadership Training was a success, a day filled with cupcakes and cadets, who were eager to learn! - c/SSG Samoy |
