The Miramar Air Show is an annual air show providing cadets with an opportunity to learn about military aircraft while displaying companionship. This is the first Komet Battalion-sponsored field trip of the year, and will take place on Friday, September 27, 2019, at MCAS Miramar. Cadets are expected to report to JROTC Room 101 no later than 8:30 a.m. on the day of the trip with their Kearny JROTC shirt. They will return to campus no later than 3:30 p.m. Participating cadets will be transported to and from the event by school bus. Although food will be provided for the cadets at no cost, cadets are welcome to bring spending money if they wish to purchase food or other items from vendors at the event.

Cadet Picnic is an event that allows cadets bond with each other, create a sense of community, and develop teamwork through multiple picnic game activities, such as relay race, egg balance, tank tube, sack race, tug of war, and more. This event will take place on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Admiral Baker Field. Cadets are expected to report to JROTC Room 101 no later than 7:30 a.m on the day in athletic wear (Kearny JROTC shirt and athletic bottoms). They will return to campus no later than 3:30 p.m. Participating cadets will be transported to and from the event by school bus. Food will be provided for the cadets at no cost.
To view more information on last year's Cadet Picnic, click the button below: On Saturday, April 20th, cadets proudly represented our Komet Battalion by participating in the annual Joint Brigade Regulation Competition at James Madison High School. Categories included Best Drilled Platoon (BDP), Best Drilled Squad (BDS), Best Drilled Individual LET 1-4 (BDI) Color Guard. BDP/BDS/BDI/Color Guard is an event that allows cadets from each unit to showcase the fruits of their hard work, teamwork, commitment, skillfulness, and discipline through armed drill and the Presentation of Colors. Thank you to all of the cadets who dedicated countless hours of practice and participated in this event in order to give their best performance!
-c/CPT Tran On Saturday, March 16, over a thousand cadets from each of the thirteen units within the San Diego Unified School District's Joint Brigade gathered for the annual Cadet Ball. Held at the Town and Country Hotel, these cadets began their night by enjoying a three-course meal and a speech from a keynote speaker recognizing and celebrating not only each of the thirteen school's successes and achievements, but also motivating them to go continue to strive for excellence. Cadets watched the Royal Court candidates represent their respective units as they walked under the Arch of Swords executed by the Joint Brigade Honor Guard. We would like to thank everyone who made the event possible; from the Brigade Staff's diligent and rigorous planning, to each of the cadets' participation. On Sunday, December 2nd, our battalion staff and leadership gathered at the San Pasqual Battlefield Historical Park. Leadership had the opportunity to step their shoes into where the war took place and gained knowledge about the Mexican-American War. An important fact about San Pasqual Battlefield Historical Park is that the name of commander of the American Soldiers, Stephen Watts Kearny, our school’s namesake. In recognition to this our leadership bonded by commemorating the lives of the soldiers that sacrificed themselves for their beloved country.
- c/CPT Castaneda On October 23rd, our Academic Team went to compete at Scripps Ranch High for the second round of Academic League. Our team placed second with 90 points. Scripps Ranch High scored 130 points and Crawford High scored 45 points. Thank you to those who competed in this round and stay tuned for future rounds!
- c/CPT Bui On Saturday, October 6th, we participated in Cadet Picnic, where we competed against the other units in many games and events, such as Tug-of-War, Tank Tube, Relay Race, Egg Balance, Basketball Hot Shots, and during lunch, a Talent Show to display our skills. Though much motivation and effort, our Komets came 2nd on Egg Balance, 3rd in Basketball Hot Shots, and 4th in Tug-of-War for females. On Friday, September 28th, our Komets went to the Miramar Air Show, which commemorated the 100th anniversary of women serving in the Marine Corps. Cadets ventured around, exploring the various aircrafts and booths they had to offer. On Tuesday, September 25th, our Academic Team arrived at James Madison High School to compete in the first round of Academic League. Our team buzzed away, placing first with 90 points. Mira Mesa and Madison High School respectively earned 30 points each. Congratulations to c/PVT Cayden Hays, c/CPT Jamielynn Leano, c/CPT Christina Tran, and c/CPT Lesley Warner on displaying their academic excellence. On Friday, June 8th, our cadets showed off their skating skills at the San Diego Ice Arena in support of Kearny AJROTC. Sandwiches were provided as cadets enjoyed each other's company. Thank you to everyone who participated in this fundraiser. We hope to encourage more cadets to join us in the next ice skating event.
- c/2LT Sunga On Friday, June 8th, cadets gathered as we had our End of the year Banquet where we reflected on what we did within our program this academic year of 2017-2018. We also promoted our new Battalion Staff, led by our very own Senior Army Instructor, COL Gregory Johnson. We were able to bond as we all dined on pizza. We would like to thank all of the cadets who came to the banquet. Congratulations to everyone for successfully finishing the school year, and we hope to see both old and new cadets next school year!

On May 19th, cadets from all thirteen units from the SDUSD Joint Brigade were acknowledged in the Pass in Review ceremony held in Lincoln High School. Awards were given out to outstanding cadets for their achievements. We congratulate all of the cadets who were awarded and recognized along with those involved with the change of command. This event proves the exemplary performances of our cadets throughout the school year. We would like to thank all of those who participated and helped to continue this long standing tradition.

On May 15th, we acknowledged the achievements of many of our outstanding cadets during our Unit Award Ceremony. With our Army Instructors and guest speakers, many different awards and even scholarships were given out. A formal change of command was also conducted with the announcement of our new Battalion Staff for the upcoming school year. This event was one step towards wrapping up the school year while inspiring cadets to go above and beyond to lead us to new heights in the future.
- c/CPT Bui On April 28th, many of our cadets marched at the Linda Vista Parade, representing our Battalion. Led by our Color Guard, cadets from all of our companies marched with our Battalion staff and our Armed and Unarmed Drill Team, who performed their routines as they marched.
