On Saturday, April 20th, cadets proudly represented our Komet Battalion by participating in the annual Joint Brigade Regulation Competition at James Madison High School. Categories included Best Drilled Platoon (BDP), Best Drilled Squad (BDS), Best Drilled Individual LET 1-4 (BDI) Color Guard. BDP/BDS/BDI/Color Guard is an event that allows cadets from each unit to showcase the fruits of their hard work, teamwork, commitment, skillfulness, and discipline through armed drill and the Presentation of Colors. Thank you to all of the cadets who dedicated countless hours of practice and participated in this event in order to give their best performance!
-c/CPT Tran On October 23rd, our Academic Team went to compete at Scripps Ranch High for the second round of Academic League. Our team placed second with 90 points. Scripps Ranch High scored 130 points and Crawford High scored 45 points. Thank you to those who competed in this round and stay tuned for future rounds!
- c/CPT Bui On Tuesday, September 25th, our Academic Team arrived at James Madison High School to compete in the first round of Academic League. Our team buzzed away, placing first with 90 points. Mira Mesa and Madison High School respectively earned 30 points each. Congratulations to c/PVT Cayden Hays, c/CPT Jamielynn Leano, c/CPT Christina Tran, and c/CPT Lesley Warner on displaying their academic excellence. On April 28th, many of our cadets marched at the Linda Vista Parade, representing our Battalion. Led by our Color Guard, cadets from all of our companies marched with our Battalion staff and our Armed and Unarmed Drill Team, who performed their routines as they marched. Thank you to everyone who participated and represented!
- c/2LT Sunga On Saturday, April 21st, our Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams represented Kearny in the 2018 Exhibition Drill Competition, hosted at James Madison High School. This event allows cadets to represent our Battalion by showcasing and exhibiting out skills through rifle spins and steps. Our participating cadets practiced hard and did their best to give an outstanding performance. It was also a good environment for cadets from different schools to interact with each other. Thank you so much for those who competed!
- c/2LT Sunga On Saturday, April 7th, our very own Raiders team competed in Cadet Challenge, a SDUSD Joint Brigade competition which took place at Hoover High School. The Raiders team went against athletic teams from twelve other units in our school district. Our competing cadets participated in these categories: push-ups, sit-ups, basketball toss and relay race. Despite the competitiveness of each cadet, it was a very social and spirited atmosphere. Thank you so much to those who competed!
-c/2LT Sunga On Saturday, February 17th, our Archery Team represented Kearny High at the California NASP State Archery Tournament hosted in Sacramento, California. Although this was a close match, our Komet Archers prevailed and won the tournament with 116 points ahead of Morse in second place. Congratulations to the Archery Team for winning the tournament with 2,984 points. Thank you to all of those who competed in this tournament.

Despite the busy semester, our cadets practiced hard and performed their best in giving a brilliant performance. -c/CPL Sunga On Wednesday, January 10th, our Archery Team competed against Madison for Archery League Round 6. Although this was a close match, our team managed to score more points by the end. Thank you to all of our Archers for working hard to continue our streak of all wins so far this season!
-c/PVT Sunga On Saturday, January 8, 2018, our Academic Team represented Kearny in the SDUSD brigade in the Academic Bowl hosted at Patrick Henry High School. The Academic Bowl is a Joint Brigade competition, where our school competes with the other 12 teams from our school district. Putting their skills and knowledge to the test, our team finished in the semi-finals, placing 6th. Scripps Ranch, Patrick Henry, and Point Loma High School were the top three schools in this competition. Nevertheless, the event was an opportunity for our team to have fun and socialize with the other teams in the brigade. Thank you to our Academic Team for their continuous hard work and dedication!
-c/PVT Sunga On Thursday, December 14th, our very own academic team competed against Mira Mesa, University City and Patrick Henry’s JROTC Academic Teams for the 4th round of the Academic League. We placed second with 70 points, only 10 points short for Patrick Henry High School, who hosted the event. This is the last event before the Academic Bowl Competition takes place on January 6th, where our scores garnered from previous rounds decide which teams we will be going against. Thank you to those who competed today.
- c/PVT Sunga Our annual Joint Brigade Best Drilled Individual (BDI) and Best Drilled Color Guard (BDCG) Regulation Drill competition took place on December 9th at Serra High School. The competition shapes cadets into performing sharp, swift drill movements with the rifle or flag. Each of the thirteen Battalions sent one cadet from each of the four LET levels to compete for the BDI competition and a LET 1 Color Guard and Varsity Color Guard team for the BDCG competition to represent their school. Many cadets who were not competing and parents of the participating cadets also came to show their support and spirit. Our participating cadets put in a lot of practice and work to give the judges a good impression with their performances. Thank you to all of those who competed and came out to support, and let us continue to work hard and preform even better next year!
- S5 On Tuesday, November 14th, our Academic team competed against University City High and San Diego High's JROTC Academic teams. We came in second place with 65 points for this third round of the Academic League. Thank you for those who competed today.
- c/CPT Peterson On November 8th, our Archery team went to compete against Crawford. Congratulations to them on their hard work and dedication!
- c/CPT Peterson On October 30th, our Archery Team competed against Morse High School for the third round of the Archery League. Through their hard work, effort, and determination, our team succeeded in winning the match. Congratulations to the Archery Team for remaining undefeated for all of the three rounds! Cheer them on as they go onto their fourth round next week on November 8th.
