On January 30, 2016, our Armed Drill Team (ADT) and Color Guard competed at Orange Glen. Here, our 9-man performed basic drill & ceremony and a routine our ADT Commander and Battalion Commander, Anthony Perez, choreographed himself. Our 4-man also performed a routine of their own, and placed third! Our color Guard also did a fantastic job, as well as our 9-man. We are all very proud of our cadets for doing their best and putting forth effort to make our participation the Saturday's competition possible, and we can't wait to see how great we do next year!

Hello! We hope that your break was filled with creating new memories with family and friends and lots of warmth! Below is our December-January 2016 Podcast. Enjoy!
- c/MSG Thai On December 12th, our Armed Drill Team made it their goal to bring back the honor of being the best drilled platoon. During the Regulation Drill Competition, Kearny’s drill team was up against all the schools in the school district, SDUSD. Our drill team has been practicing for not days, not weeks, but months. After the months of practice, the team was ready to face the other competitors. They discovered their full potential and did the best that they could. All the hard work paid off when Kearny was called not once, but three times. Kearny was placed 3rd in 1st Year Best Drill Individual, 1st in 2nd Year Best Drill Individual, and 1st in 3rd Year Best Drill Individual. Congratulations to Cadet Corporal Hansbrough, Cadet Sergeant First Class Mains, Cadet First Lieutenant Quesada, and of course the whole ADT!!
- c/MSG Thai On Sunday, December 6th, was the anniversary of the Battle of San Pasqual. This battle took place in 1846, during the Mexican-American War. In this battle, the commander of the American soldiers was Stephen Watts Kearny, our school’s namesake. In remembrance, a handful of our cadets attended San Pasqual’s annual celebration of this battle. Here, our flag detail raised both the American and Mexican flags while the anthems played, and we all held a salute in honor of everyone who fought. At the celebration, we ate great food, played some fun games, saw a few mules and horses, learned more about our American and school history, and learned some new jokes from some of the workers putting on the amazing event! We were honored to be able to attend this year’s celebration, and hope to have as much fun next year!
- c/SFC Williams On November 21st, our archery team had a competition at John Muir. The team has much improved since this event last year, and we are all very proud of them! Asia Dunbar, one of Kearny’s archery champs, said, “We have improved as a team within this past year. It was very fun, the archers had a nice time coming out to shoot on that Saturday.”
- c/SFC Haley Williams On December 4th, a group of cadets from our battalion were on a mission to escort the middle schoolers from Montgomery Middle School to Kearny. Once the cadets arrived to their destination, they walked the middle schoolers to Kearny and showed them what Kearny’s AJROTC consisted of. The students were able to catch a glimpse of our Archery Team and ADT Team. Saying that the event was exciting was an understatement. The students’ eyes were opened. One may say that they discovered many new things about the AJROTC program at Kearny. We hope that they had an amazing time and recognized the greatness of the AJROTC program.
- c/SFC Thai On September 3rd, Kearny's girls' tennis team played a match against Lincoln High School. Joanna Asuelo, Melissa Burgoyne, Naydi Hernandez, Ashley Mullaley, Gemma Samoy, and Haley Williams were six of the nine team members are also active participants in our JROTC program. Participating in varsity sports along with JROTC as we always suggest and support was enough to make us all proud, but they also won due to their hard work, dedication, and good sportsmanship: qualities of truly amazing cadets. We wish them all luck at their first away game against Crawford High School on September 10th!
- c/SFC Williams Welcome to the new Kearny football field! On September 4, 2015, it was our first home football game on our brand new field! Color Guard showed up at Kearny at around 4pm, ready to present the colors. Everyone was very spirited and excited for the game! Although the pressure was on, spirits were high and the team did their best. GO KOMETS!
- c/SSG Thai This year's Aviation Camp has come to an end! Aviation Camp was a fun filled adventure for all cadets complete with flying virtual planes, a bus breaking down, and Colonel's humor included (free of charge)! 25 cadets had come to Kearny for one week to be instructed by volunteer retired veterans as well as Colonel Swann on aviation! In addition to class courses, cadets had the opportunity to try their luck on the simulators, and take three field trips!
Their week started with aviation lessons that covered everything from air traffic to the parts of a plane and instruction on the simulators. The following day, cadets traveled as a whole to explore the Los Alamitos Airfield. Finally the last two days, cadets alternated between touring the San Diego Aviation Museum and Montgomery Airport, respectively, and spending more time on the simulators! A big thank you to all the instructors who helped to make this happen! - c/SSG Samoy |
