Hi, fellow cadets! We hope that you had an amazing Thanksgiving break and we are very thankful for you! This is to remind our fellow LET 2-4's that the speech about our U.S. Constitution is going to be due on Tuesday, December 1, 2015. There are specific amendments that you have to mention in your speech. The information is under the "Homework and Projects" tab.
For your convenience: Each LET 2-4 cadet will give an oratory speech. The assigned topic discourse must not consume less than three (3) minutes or more than five (5) minutes for delivery. The purpose of the assigned topic discourse i to test the cadet's knowledge of the subject, the extent of his or her research, and the ability to discuss the topic as related to the basic principles of government under the constitution.
Cadets can give their speech before December 1 if they are ready to do so. The cadet may choose any of the topics listed below.
Assigned Topics:
  • Amendment 8: Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
  • Amendment 26:
    • Section 1. The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age.
    • Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
  • Article 1 Section 9 Paragraph 2: The privilege of the Writ of Habeas Corpus shall not be suspended, unless when in Cases of Rebellion or Invasion the Public Safety might require it.
  • Article 1 Section 6 Clause 1: The Senators and Representatives shall not receive a Compensation for their Services, to be ascertained by Law, an paid out of the Treasury of the United States. They shall in all Cases, except Treason, Felony and Breach of the Peace, be privileged from Arrest during their Attendance at the Session of their respective Houses, and in going to and returning from the same; and for any Speech or Debate in their house, they shall not be questioned in any other place.
In addition, the essay on "100 years of JROTC: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow," which is an assignment on mybigcampus.com, is due on Thursday, December 3, 2015. The information for this is also under the "Homework and Projects" tab.
Again, for your convenience: All LET 2-4 cadets will submit an essay for the 2015-2016 Army JROTC Essay Contest. This assignment is worth 110 points. The essay itself is 100 points and 10 points as Tab J in your Cadet Portfolio. The topic for this year's essay is "100 Years of JROTC: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow".
Criteria:
  1. All LET 2-4 cadets must submit an essay.
  2. The essay will be 2-3 pages. At least two but no more than 3.
  3. The essay header and title shall adhere to the attached. The essay body shall adhere to the Modern Language Association (MLA) format.
    1. Font Type: Times New Roman.
    2. Font Size: 12.
    3. Spacing: Double.
    4. Margins: 1 inch on all sides.
  4. Essays will be judged and graded on content, organization structure, and development of the essay topic.
  5. Essays shall be the work of the individual cadet. Cadets MAY receive feedback from instructors, peers, and other teachers in order to improve their essays; however cadets must do their own work.
Use the Kearny AJROTC Grading Rubric to assist you in developing your essay.
The top three essay writers will receive a Kearny AJROTC Ribbon for their efforts. The winning essay will be forwarded to the San Diego Joint Brigade for the District Competition. The winner of that competition goes forward the 8th Brigade and possibly the National JROTC Finals.
Type your essay, save it as a Word file, and then submit it on My Big Campus.
